Safe Lawn Darts for Outdoor Fun

Lawn darts is a popular outdoor game where players throw plastic/rubber darts with a blunt, weighted tip towards a circular target that is placed/drawn on the ground a short distance away. Players score points by throwing and landing the darts inside of the circular target. Players take turns until a predetermined scoring milestone has been reached. In certain game variations, players may receive more points for landing darts closer to the center of the target.

Lawn darts can be played by people of all ages and skill levels including kids (provided they are of safe construction; i.e. plastic/rubber construction with blunt end an no sharp points). Lawn darts is a great game for barbeques and other outdoor events. The equipment is cheap and it is very easy to set up.

NOTE: The use of metal lawn darts has been outlawed in the United States and Canada (see: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawn_darts) as many injuries resulted but the manufacture of weighted plastic/rubber darts has created a safe way to play eliminating the chance for serious injury.

Lawn Dart Gameplay & Scoring

Typical lawn dart games consist of 2-8 players either playing individually or grouping up to play on teams of 2, 3 or 4. Lawn darts scoring can vary slightly but most forms of any type of game include players taking turns throwing darts toward a ring or rings that are spaced approximately 30-35 feet from the players (actual distance can vary based on players experience and skill level, the further away for more experienced players). Players score points by landing darts inside a circular target ring. Some versions have a smaller target ring placed inside the larger ring to create a “bullseye” which players receive more points for landing inside the “bullseye” (typically 2 or 3 points).

Scoring darts thrown by opposing players cancel each other out, therefore if Player/Team A throws 2 scoring darts and Player/Team B throw 1 during a round, the resulting score is Player/Team A scores 1 point. If Player/Team A and Player/Team B throw the same number of scoring darts then no points are awarded for the round. Players/teams continue to throw darts until one player/team have accumulated 11-21 points (depending on the game type and skill level).
